We Are What We Eat

'We are what we eat'

How often have we heard that statement and others such as 'if you eat your greens you will grow big and strong' and that 'you will get curly hair if you eat your crusts'. But if this were true, many of us would look like a 70's Footballer or even worse:

To try and sort fact from fiction about the myths surrounding the food we eat, the Well-being Day and week will give you the opportunity to learn more about food and nutrition. It will also be the start of the 2009 Weight-loss Challenge, which isn't just aimed at losing weight to raise money for the Ty-Gobaith Children's Hospice but is also aimed at people who are trying to improve their diet and eat more healthily.

Food labelling can also cause frustration as food that is marketed as being healthier and which you might choose because you think it is better for you, isn't, when compared to other similar products. So what is a Kj and Kcal, what fat is 'good' and what fat is 'bad' and what does '% of your daily allowance' mean? Also when should food be thrown away as it is past its 'Use by Date' or 'Best Before Date'?

To answer some of these questions, come along to the Well-being Day and Week to learn more about what's in our food and food labelling.
